{"id":675,"date":"2016-03-14T17:02:10","date_gmt":"2016-03-14T16:32:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jakobssonlab.iob.uu.se\/?page_id=675"},"modified":"2025-02-10T13:27:23","modified_gmt":"2025-02-10T12:27:23","slug":"maxcon","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/jakobssonlab.iob.uu.se\/index.php\/software\/maxcon\/","title":{"rendered":"MAXCON"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading is-style-underlined-heading\">MAXCON<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The MAXimum CONtribution from a sampled ancestor population to a more recent population.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This software is a complement to the paper <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1093\/molbev\/msu059\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sj\u00f6din et al 2014<\/a>. There are four parts of the package corresponding to whether the maximum &#8216;genetic&#8217; or maximum &#8216;demographic&#8217; contribution is of interest and whether this is done using analytical formulas or simulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The data should be in the form of a biallelic marker for which two samples from two populations separated by time have been obtained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A prerequisite is that there is some information regarding the number of generations that separates the two samples as well as some idea of a smallest (effective) population size of the population that supposedly evolved from the sampled older population to the more recent population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The programs in MaxCon can then be used to assess a maximum demographic\/genetic contribution from the older population to the more recent that is consistent with the observed samples. The brief &#8216;Readme.txt&#8217; (included in the zipped file) should be consulted before running the programs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The simulation code only requires R while the programs relying on the analytical formulas (written in Python and C++) depend on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mpfr.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MPFR<\/a>&nbsp;and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gmplib.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GMP<\/a>&nbsp;libraries .
