This research will use computational methods to\u00a0reconstruct how\u00a0these populations changed over time, which is of\u00a0particular interest because ancient southern Africans\u00a0represent\u00a0one of humanity&#8217;s\u00a0earliest population splits (approximately 300,000 years ago)\u00a0and harbour\u00a0genetic\u00a0variation not captured by existing datasets.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congratulations, Mark!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">M Borgstr\u00f6ms Foundation for Genetic Research<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The foundation awards scholarships (preferably in human genetics) primarily to Swedish researchers for research in or outside Sweden, and secondarily to foreign researchers for research in Sweden. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The foundation was established through a letter of gift from Uppsala University associate professor Marcus Borgstr\u00f6m, and the UU students can apply for the grants via the university.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 140,000 SEK grant will support detailed genetic analysis of ancient southern Africans who lived\u00a010,200 to\u00a01,400 years ago.
